  The pool is lovely and is surrounded by olive, fig and fruit trees. It was great having a dip in the pool and then jumping out, picking a fig and relaxing on the pool-side loungers.

  The closest beach is "Playa de Puerto Rey", which has very nice sand & very warm water, but only limited shade. We went to the beach one morning; and another day we went to visit Mojácar, stocking up with drinking water at the Fuente (Spring).

  Finca Arboleda is a 10 minute drive from Vera, which has a well stocked Intermarché Supermarket that is open all week including Sunday. Make sure you print out the Google Map of how to get to Finca Arboleda, we tried to use TomTom with limited success, if we had have stuck to the (very good) Google Map & Directions supplied, we would have got there a bit quicker.

  This venue is a jewel in the Vera crown. I really shouldn't be telling you how wonderful this is. It should be my little secret!!!

  The surrounding area has a lot to offer, but to make the most of it you really need a car.

  Probably a car is essential to get to the local shops in Vera but you could just have a really relaxing holiday by using it minimally and staying put at Finca Arboleda. If you do choose to travel around then this is a good base because the motorway is only a few minutes drive away.

  We stayed with Mick and Pirrko in September 2007 and again September 2008. We had the Old Stables and our friends stayed in the apartment. My wife and I revisited again on our own in 2008. Our stays here have been amongst our best holiday experiences. The properties were both spotlessly clean and were equipped to a very high standard with everything you could possibly need, even a cool box and ice packs for picnics and shopping!

  We stayed in "The Old Stables" for 7-nights at the beginning of September. Although it said "sleeps 4", our hosts Michael & Pirkko (plus their adorable Lurcher "Stig") added a put-up bed in the second bedroom, and the accomodation was easily big enough for 5 of us (myself, my wife & 3-children; 7, 5 & 5). The Old Stables are of typical design for a modern Spanish appartment. They are clean & modern, decorated & maintained to a high standard. Both bedrooms were very comfortable; the toilet & shower were modern, clean & well maintained. The remaining living area was a combined lounge (with UK satellite TV), kitchen & dining area; again, tastefully done, comfortable & well maintained. There was also an outside table & chairs for eating in the evening, along with barbecue. We used these every night, as we sat out eating, watching the bats fly around.

  We stayed at the Old Stables in July 08 and will return in December 09. This is a modern single level building built on the site of some old stables. There was no air conditioning but fans and careful use of the blinds kept it cool enough. We spent a lot of the time outdoors barbecuing and relaxing. The figs were ripe and the owners allowed us to pick them (delicious!). There is a shared swimming pool that blends in well with the surroundings and it contained non-chlorinated water so it's really pleasant to swim in.

  Leaving the best bit to last (as is traditional), now on to the Pool. We had intended to do more sightseeing, but Costa Almeria in early September is pretty damn warm. We had already spent 6-nights elsewhere in Spain, and our oldest child was starting to swim, while our two younger children (twins) were also swimming comfortably but with armbands. The pool at Finca Arboleda is stunning, shallow enough for our children at one end, but about 2.1m deep at the other, 5m wide & 10m long. Temperature was either 28 or 29degC each day, and the various Olive/Orange/Pomegranite trees provide a reasonable degree of shade. There are also sun-loungers and sunshades provided. After a week in the pool (usually twice a day 10-1130AM, 5-7PM), all our children were swimming much better, and its thanks to the time they spent at Finca Arboleda. At the end of the week, our 7 year-old had done 50-lengths (without armbands) in one day (not without rests), and the twin 5 year-olds were both swimming widths & the occasional length without armbands. The accomodation was really nice, but what the children really remember about the holiday is the pool (and Stig!).

  Mick and Pirrko were extremely friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to make sure you had an enjoyable stay. If only all property owners were like them!
